The Arizona Cardinals are kicking off the postseason with a win! The city of Glendale has officially renamed a stretch of Bethany Home Road to honor Arizona鈥檚 largest sports franchise.

The Glendale City Council renamed Bethany Home Road to Cardinals Way between 91st and 99th avenues in honor of the Cardinal鈥檚 economic and community impacts on Glendale, the West Valley and the entire state of Arizona.

鈥淣aming the road in front of the stadium Cardinals Way was something I wanted to do as a special way to recognize an organization that represents Glendale and Arizona in the very best ways,鈥� Mayor Jerry Weiers said in a. 鈥淭he Bidwill family has established a winning football tradition and a true spirit of community giving in Arizona. When visitors from all over the state, the U.S. and the world travel to the stadium, it is only fitting that they should be heading towards Cardinals Way.鈥�

While the newly named State Farm Stadium is best known as home to the Cardinals, it also has hosted two Super Bowls 鈥� and will host the event again in 2023 鈥� the NCAA Men鈥檚 Final Four, WrestleMania, and a variety of concerts.

According to Representative C茅sar Ch谩vez (D-29), the Cardinals, along with Westgate, have transformed the West Valley into an entertainment district and tourist attraction.

鈥�The Arizona Cardinals have become an economic driver not only for the city of Glendale and the West Valley but for the entire state of Arizona,鈥� Ch谩vez said. 鈥淸The stadium] used to be nothing but agriculture. This entertainment district鈥�has not only grown the West Valley but has given it its own identity.鈥�

The Cardinals have become a favorite team with fan bases around the world.

鈥淥ut of the 13 seasons, all of them have been completely sold out. So, there’s a fanatic base here in this state,鈥� Ch谩vez said. 鈥淧eople come from all over the world just to see the Arizona Cardinals is very amazing. I have a lot of family in Mexico and there’s a fan club of the Arizona Cardinals that gets together.鈥�

The team also completes charitable and community work to help Arizonans such as Cardinals Charities, Players Kids Camps, Good Sports Programs, Touchdown for Schools, Arizona Cardinals Women鈥檚 Club, Military Recognition and Make a Wish Programs.

According to the team, they are working with the city of Glendale and Arizona Department of Transportation to schedule the replacement of the road signs on the Loop 101 and Bethany Home Road.

鈥淲hen you see that wave happening that means that not only are they doing their job, but it gives the state of Arizona a positive image. That’s what we’ve been looking…to elevate Arizona above other states and allow people to know that we are open for business,鈥� Ch谩vez said.
